I’ve been a business owner for about 15 years, but it wasn’t until others began asking me for coaching, that I realized how much I was helping others figure out what you need to start, run and grow a successful small business.
I’ve also realized how often so many of you are struggling – even if you’ve been at it a while.
I know so many people who do great work. They’re grantwriters, copywriters, service providers, sellers, artists, marketers, and event planners. They’re experienced, smart, compassionate, and really good at what they do. But they can still struggle in figuring out what’s keeping them from growing, taking risks, and selling their work.
Like so many of you, they work too many hours for too little pay.
They serve their clients or customers at great cost to themselves and their families. They have difficulty keeping a structure to their days and few systems to support their work. Boundaries are fuzzy, and they’re overwhelmed with details. They’re exhausted, overwhelmed – sometimes asking why they’re in this.
Or, they know they need to get clear on what process will help them grow the business. Where to prioritize their efforts. Usually it’s not knowledge that keeps them stuck, it’s prioritizing, accountability, hidden beliefs and fears.
Through coaching, we explore what’s behind the issue that’s troubling them. Sometimes, what they are really struggling with is finding their voice. Speaking their mind. Following their intuition. Running their life and business the way they really want it to be.
Here’s a few things to help you decide that working with me is what you want:
I am ready and willing to make the changes I need to make, to move my business forward.
Growth means change, or what I call “conscious evolution.” It means exploring underlying beliefs/fears, developing new systems, trying new strategies, and even changing the way you think. As a result, that change can be really exciting, but for others, it’s really painful. But which is more uncomfortable for you: the fear of change? Or the fear of staying right where you are for another year? Can you afford not to do it?
I am willing to commit the time and energy it takes to do this work!
It does no good to pay someone for guidance if you’re not going to keep appointments, listen to what they say, or do the work they suggest you do. You set specific goals, and allow yourself to be held accountable to those goals. Commitment means making time to take steady, weekly work on short-term, achievable actions. And, it means putting the learning you’ve been doing to work for you. Consistent action brings consistent results. No one’s coming to your rescue, so it’s up to you.
I am willing to face the truth.
Coaching is much more than cheerleading. A good coach points out where you are getting in your own way. She’ll track what you’ve identified as your goals and dreams and where you are playing small. She helps you change the stories you’ve been telling yourself about what you can and can’t do. That will make you feel uncomfortable.
I am willing to invest in my own growth and development.
Yes, making a financial investment in coaching is hard. When you make an investment in your own growth and investment, you are more likely to make the changes you need to make in order to get your money’s worth.
I think I need a creative thinking partner and an accountability partner.
You have an idea for your business, but just need help knowing where to start. Or you find yourself wandering off course, getting distracted, and getting stuck at roadblocks. A coach serves as both an accountability partner keeping you on track with goals, and a super-creative brainstorming partner. I’ll listen while you ‘think out loud,’ and I’ll push you to think bigger, and help you separate what matters from what’s getting in the way.
I know I need to get better at selling.
What I MOST often hear from new entrepreneurs that I coach is that they are uncomfortable with their need to always sell. This critical skill will make or break your business in the long run.
If you are not clear on your vision, then every single opportunity will distract you and impede your progress. You’ll never really know what you’re capable of until there’s someone to push you outside your comfort zone. You want to find a coach who understands you and your business and that you are comfortable with, but also one that will push back on you, too.
